The Origins of the Set Menu

Did you know that the origin of the set menu dates back to 19th-century France? At the time, restaurants offered à la carte dishes that were often quite expensive. However, one Parisian restaurant decided to offer a fixed menu including several courses at a reasonable price. The idea was an instant success and was soon adopted by other establishments across France.

In Spain, set lunch menus became popular in the 1960s. During this period, many restaurants began offering menus that included a starter, main course, dessert, and drink at an affordable price. This format quickly became a hit as it allowed people to dine out without overspending.
